Bankruptcy threat brings new concept to the Cayman Islands … taxes →

Three things:

  1. I’m not a fan of the current government administration.  Loser ideas all around.
  2. I’m pretty frightened by this prospect and everything to do with it.
  3. This journalist is a jackass and needs to stop saying “the Caymans”.

As a Matter of Mental Health…

… two shifts in a row, closing at 10 then opening at 6, is horrific punishment.  Twice in one week is nothing short of torture.

I honestly don’t know how anyone can be asked to do this.  Surely there are enough employees between the 4 stores to ensure crimes like this NEVER take place (unless someone’s masochistic like that).

The things I do for money.

The Epic Saga of the PlayStation 3

So if you’ll remember carefully, a while back, I posted this.  Here’s the story of how it became relevant.

I have a little routine I like to engage in at the beginning of every semestre.  I take a pretty big sum of money and hide it from myself so that when I find it I can just go nuts and spend it frivolously.  I did it last semestre and bought a digital piano.  This semestre, I hid $250 CAD (approx. $200 USD) and bought a PS3.  There’s an interesting story surrounding this though.

I’d been eyeing a PS3 for the longest while.  I found my money a couple of weeks ago so I started lurking Craigslist, looking for a good deal.  The majority of the good deals (i.e. brand new systems, refurbs, etc.), though, were in the area of $300 CAD (approx. $250 USD) so I decided a used system wouldn’t be so bad.  I was gonna switch out the hard drive for the 120GB disk from my old laptop anyway.  So one day, I found a pretty sweet deal that was a 40GB system and no controller for $250.  After calling the guy, he ended up including a controller as I already had a USB cable to charge it.  I journeyed 45 minutes up North to pick it up from him and 45 minutes back home again, excited to play my new PS3.  However, upon setting the system up, I discovered that this guy swindled me and sold me a system with a broken wifi card AND ethernet port!

I was pretty mad, needless to say.  He wouldn’t answer my calls and wouldn’t return my e-mails and worse, still, there was obviously no receipt so warranty was out of the question.  I just didn’t have $200 more dollars to send it to get repaired.

Then, a miracle.

In all his weasling, the guy forgot his copy of Call of Duty 5: World at War in the machine.  A pretty popular game, by my understanding.  Anyway, I decided I wasn’t gonna take this lying down and I was still determined to get my PS3!  Long story short: I sold the system and the game (honestly pointing out the flaws, of course) for $300, profiting $50 on my original $250.

It didn’t stop there though.  I decided to take my $300 and put down another $25 to buy a brand new 80GB system that I guy was selling.  He got it as a gift but he’s not a gamer so he just wanted some quick cash.  I met up with him yesterday and bought it off him.  IN FACT, he was such a nice guy about it, he let me have it for $300 as opposed to the $325 he listed!

Mmmm.  Brand new 120GB PS3 for $300 CAD, no tax.  Every day I’m hustlin’ :]

Things I Need to Stop Doing [Vol. 1]

Lurking Craigslist at obscene hours of morning when I should be sleeping.  All this has brought me is strife over trying to choose between a 40GB PS3, trying to barter down the price of an Epiphone Dot by $150 (I’m willing to forgo the hard case) and trying to bum $100 for that Epiphone Les Paul.

i can guarantee that my most recent would amount to alot more than this example. but you get the idea. lol

I’d be, easily, at least ¢566,445 (Costa Rican Colones) richer.  That’s $820 KYD (Cayman Islands Dollars), $1,000 USD or $1,282.68 CAD.
