I Can’t Write Left Handed - John Legend & The Roots

Good God above, this is beautiful.  John’s voice is absolutely sublime, ?uesto’s drums are a force of nature and Kirk’s guitar solo brings tears to my eyes.  Bill Withers sure knows how to write a song!  Wake Up!

Lazy Sunday ft. The Roots (Old School Remix Live from Jimmy Fallon) - Andy Samberg & Chris Parnell

The first viral video EVER?  I’d believe that.  I remember watching this jawn in IT class back in high school.  Almost half a decade ago!

You Got Me ft. Jill Scott & Erykah Badu [Live at Dave Chappelle’s Block Party] - The Roots

Easily the most powerful recording of this song, ever.  Probably the most powerful song ever recorded, for that matter.

Pretty Girls ft. The Roots [LIVE ON JIMMY FALLON] - Wale

Black Thought is a PROBLEM on that verse.

I heard this was good but only just got to watching it.  Verdict: Jay-Z’s ego is bigger than Kanye’s.  I mean, it HAS to be.  Let’s examine the facts at work here:

Not only was The Blueprint 3 the laziest hip-hop album I’ve ever heard, but Jay-Z’s performances seem to be mirroring that.  The concept-orchestra?  When Kanye did it, it was groundbreaking and tasteful, yet, at the same time out there.  I look at Hova’s band and they’re wearing black hoodies and jeans.  They don’t even look graceful.  Like a hoodlum symphony.

And of his entire verse and a half, I’m sure Young Jeezy may have actually rapped about 4.3 words.  They pay him too much.  And I know Jay’s old now but what happened to the energy that emcees are supposed to bring to a live performance?  These two look like they’re pacing in their thoughts.  Veteran or not (which , you have an obligation to your crowd and, again, Kanye’s passion in EVERY performance shows.  His presence is electric.

BET, you still suck.  I’ll take the Mos Def x Black Thought x Eminem cypher and leave, thank you very much.

This cypher and Jay-Z/Young Jeezy performance were the ONLY reasons to watch the BET awards.

I don’t care what anyone says.  Mos Def is NOT a rapper.  He’s so much more than that.  He’s more like a poet.

Kid Rock x The Roots x DJ Jazzy Jeff x EPMD x Fabolous x Foxy Brown x Ghostface Killah x Chrisette Michele x Wale - Def Jam Medley

Need I say more?  Plus, Wale’s Kanye was IMPECCABLE!  I would kill for the chance to do a Hip Hop Honors tribute someday.  Thank you Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin for gracing us with Def Jam Records.
