Almost Home Again

It’s Monday afternoon and I’m just thinking about how awesome it’ll be to be home again in two days!  Thursday afternoon, I fly out of Toronto, back to my beloved Cayman Islands and it cannot come soon enough!

It’s been quite an experience living in the big city, facing down Fall and Winter, but I can’t wait to get back to the season I know and love best: Invincible Summer (you can imagine how thrilled I was that Common almost named his latest album after it)!  Kids here can’t wait to get back to their hometowns to go skating and snowboarding and junk.  I, on the other hand, can’t wait to do the opposite of that!  The beaches, barbecues and shorts are calling out for me and I intend to respond!

It’s actually kind of funny how different views of the Christmahannukwanzakah season are, based on geography.  For example, Jess can’t get over the fact that I usually don’t have a Manhattan Christmas tree but more of a Vegas Christmas tree, artificial no less.  I also know Bruno and Nina consider it pretty much sacreligious to celebrate Christmas without snow while I wouldn’t call it Christmas unless dad was out back frying fish on the barbecue grill!  It’s actually quite a quandry because I’m a total girl for sentimental value (yayy sweeping generalisations) and a stickler for tradition!  But luckily for me, this year, I get to go home and spend Christmas AND the best holiday of the year (Boxing Day, baby) with my family!

Also, it’s good that I’ll be home this year because I can imagine celebrating Kwanzaa up here would be quite depressing!
