Hey guys, this summer, I plan to work on a documentary about artists, designers and musicians back home in Cayman.  I’ve started my process book here so feel free to follow.  Just so you know, the film will be completely free so don’t be afraid to get attached!

Two Caymanians in my last.fm top played list this week! Though, I suppose it doesn’t count if I’m one of them, does it?

Dear Natasha Kozaily, I think I kinda love you. Love, Paul

Home Sweet Home

clientsfromhell:

I took a design job in the Cayman Islands out of college in 1998. It lasted a week. Here’s why.

Boss: “Can you start scanning these magazines for the nice landscape photos. We’ll use them later for stock.”

Me: “Don’t you think there might be some issues with copyright?”

Boss: “Copyright? Dis is da Caribbean, we got no copyright here mon!”

Tonight (George Town) - ThE iZ

Now I have my fair share of “issues” with ThE iZ (the alternating caps among others) but there’s no denying they’re incredible musicians.  And don’t get it twisted; they’re picky, music-snobby things that would annoy me and ONLY me.  Regardless, this is probably the best video that’s EVER been shot in Cayman.  Hat’s off to you dudes.

Today, there was an earthquake

And it hit my home country of the Cayman Islands at about 9.30am EST.  5.8 magnitude from the fault line in the sea, 38 miles south of my hometown.

Everyone is alright and there was minimal physical damage.  Wish I could say the same for the emotional, though.  I’m pretty shaken up about this and lots of people back home are too.

I’d really appreciate your prayers for the safety of, not just Cayman and Haiti, but the Caribbean as a whole.  We’re celebrated for our natural beauty and pseudo-utopian scenery which often distracts from the fact that we live in such a disaster-prone spot on the planet.

World Tour 2012

But not really a world tour.

I’m thinking about springing for one of those round-the-world tickets as a graduation gift to myself, two years from now.  There are a number of countries I really want to visit and just about as many couches waiting for me when I get to them so why not seize the opportunity?

Nothing’s set in stone and I’m still looking into the logistics but so far the itinerary seems to resemble something like this:

  • Cayman to Miami
  • Miami to LA
  • LA to Auckland, NZ
  • Auckland, NZ to Wellington, NZ
  • Wellington, NZ (back) to Auckland, NZ
  • Auckland, NZ to Tokyo, JP
  • Tokyo, JP to Hong Kong
  • Hong Kong to Manila, PH
  • Manila, PH (back) to Hong Kong
  • Hong Kong to Singapore
  • Singapore to Beijing, CH
  • Beijing, CH to San Francisco
  • San Francisco to Sao Paolo, BR

And back to Miami again, I guess.  It’d be an interesting venture, for sure, and it’d definitely get my passport back to peak conditioning again (it’s been a while since my last wild international adventure; referring to the Central American Easter Roadtrip of 07).

Just thought I’d share.

Are You Ready?

Because I’m not.  It’s -6ºC (21ºF) outside AND snowing.  I’ve been at home in warm weather for the last month and then suddenly I’m thrown into this, with no preparation.  On the bright side, I’ve isolated the perfect formula for a warm upper body (neck upwards notwithstanding) so that’s pretty good (t-shirt, two American Apparel hoodies, overcoat of your choice).

Still, Winter, I hate you and loathe your entire existence.  In case you’d forgotten.

The one nice thing about being back in Toronto is the technological advantage.  I’m back to using my iPhone with perfect 3G+ coverage, my 27” HD monitor and I now have my 1.5TB external hard drive.  I love Cayman like cooked food but we, as a nation, need to get it together on the technological front.  That and I need to bring all my stuff back.  Trying to transport all this stuff back to Cayman (along with my 88 key M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 keyboard and multiple other facets of my setup) when I graduate in 2012 is going to be quite an interesting ordeal to say the least.  A part of me thinks I should be putting some cash away, gradually, to pay for a shipping container or something.
