On Good Things and Better Things.

So it would seem that the whirlwind adventure isn’t stopping any time soon and that’s perfectly okay with me.  For those just tuning in, I am a illustrator and a musician who’s career(s) seem to be exploding with activity right now, in the midst of my third year of university.  On the design side, I’m being wooed by a number of clients; both present and potentially future and I just got my second t-shirt design printed (based on the album art of my latest single).  On the music side, I’m working on my album (still), meeting every musician in the city of Toronto, released a new single last week and have TWO gigs coming up in the next seven days.  Life is certainly prosperous these days.

Just to keep things in perspective, I’m very much a student.  I’m in my third year of university, studying Illustration here in Toronto, and the government of the Cayman Islands thinks I’m good enough at it to keep giving me money to do so.  I’ve been fortunate enough to do design work for Warner Music Group and War Child Canada and will be adding other clientele to that list soon enough.  Now, not all of my classmates have been blessed enough to say these things of themselves (though a few of them have admirable accolades of their own) so it’s an honour to have these things under my belt at age 21; a little over halfway through my degree.

This student thing, though, has also brought its fair share of grievances too.  As a self-made independent musician, school gets in the way A LOT.  AFTER the countless hours of staying up late doing design work is when I get to work on my music.  Writing lyrics gets a maximum of an hour a day, as I ride the subway.  I get to go to an average of one big show per year.  I also don’t make nearly enough money to sustain my musicianship either.  Still, it’s not all bad.

When I do get a chance to let my musician flag fly, I REALLY get to cut loose.  I’ve DJed a number of house parties and tomorrow I’ll be spinning my first venue, Starving Artist.  It’s still blowing my mind, considering I’ve been going there since the very first WEEK it opened and I’m honoured that they’ll have me to do my thing at this super-important fixture in my life!  I’ll also be headlining an event at the El Mocambo next Thursday; performing my own songs, both old and new, and I can’t wait to just let loose on stage again!

In short, I guess this is just a status report to say that things are going really, really, REALLY well for me lately and I’m thankful.
