I am currently at the halfway point of my classes this semester and I am currently writing this from beyond the grave.  Okay, hyperbole, but only barely.  I’m currently in my second (or maybe third) whirlwind week of non-stop things to do, which barely scrape the cells off deadlines galore, and for the first time in my life, I’m not entirely sure I can pull it off.  That said, if you see me wandering around, looking a hot mess express, you know what’s up.

My prayer is for longevity and a renewed passion for the things I love.  Also, that I would remember that I need prayer.  One of my repeated personal shortcomings is that I will reach the end of myself and keep trying to claw at more without God.  Conventional logic would dictate that after 100% exertion, anything further would HAVE to come from something else greater.  Granted, I don’t seem to be particularly conventional OR logical in my behaviour so I do idiotic things like strain myself.

Last week, after pulling the most horrendous all nighter right before a 12.5 hour day, I skipped my Wednesday class and took a much needed mental health day.  In taking the day off on Wednesday, I missed an in-class assignment and, subsequently, a chunk of my semester grade in one of my notoriously weaker classes (my thoughts on Illustrative Drawing & Painting are no secret) but I rested and recuperated and felt GREAT afterward.  I also happened to have Thursday off, so I managed to score a two-day pre-kend (I have class on Fridays so I don’t get a three-day weekend) and it was MAGNIFICENT.

Now, I know that NOT doing work is not the appropriate solution to EVERY instance in which my life is overwhelmed and overrun with work, but it was the proper one this time and it wasn’t until I remembered to pray and act outside of my own wisdom that I realised it.

So with just under 50% of the semester to go, I hereby vow to let the wisdom of God overrule that of art school tradition and trust Him to empower me more than any tea or coffee ever could.  And YOU can hold me to that.
